Situated in the heart of Ireland, Fairymount Farm  offers walkers something very unique - a chance to spend time walking on a beautiful award winning working farm. This family run organic farm has wonderful walking trails with spectacular views and natural wildlife. These walks take you past untouched archaeological site (Ring Fort, Fulachta Fiadh, Crannog as described on our ‘About Us’ page). Our walks and trails take you through pastures, new forestry, woodlands, an ancient oak wood and down to our private 25 acre lake (Lough Nahinch). Walk to the top of our 700ft hilltop of famous Knockshegowna with panoramic views overlooking seven counties of unspoilt countryside – magical!

The farm has three main trails for both the real ‘hiker’ and the ‘casual walker’ to choose from to suit their physical abilities. They are set out with easily visible but discreet yellow arrows, with well sited seats at specific viewing points. Along the trails there are numbered stops (1-15) and we have produced a beautifully illustrated booklet which links with each number and explains the many interesting facts of both past and present. This booklet also contains a colour map of Fairymount Farm. The walks begin either at the farmhouse (Fairymount) or at Oakwood and are laid out in a figure of eight. You can take the long walk, or the shorter loops, or using our map and your initiative...explore your own trail following yellow arrows at all times!

1. The Heritage Walk:  (Approximately 9km/5.5miles)

The Heritage Trail takes approximately 3.5 hours to walk and it trails through all the important features and sites on the farm. It also incorporates the other two walks.

2. The Lake Walk:        (Approximately 3.2km/2miles)

Tourists may start this walk at ‘Fairymount’ (5km/3.5miles) where our Reception area is for all walks, or could drive from Fairymount to ‘Oakwood’ to park there and start the lake walk from the actual oak wood (3.2km/2miles). From here this trail takes you through the old oak wood, across the road and down to the lake (Lough Nahinch), then onwards to the Crannog, back through the callows to the Fulachta Fiadh and then on to the Ring Fort.

3. The Hill Walk:  (Approximately 1.6km/1mile)

This walk, starting at Fairymount, involves climbing to the hill summit for breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside with views of seven counties.  Then you descend back down to the farmyard through some of the new forest.
